Reading/Writing Skills Level 1: This class is good for students who have mastered sounding out words and recognizing basic sight words, but are still practicing reading more than a few sentences or paragraphs at a time.  - Students should be able to read a book like this and understand the main idea independently. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsAO2cOIj7M- (this is a general video from YouTube, and we have no affiliation with the creator). It's ok if students mispronounce words when reading, as long as they understand the storyline.  - Students must be able to write up to 3 sentences in English independently. Sentences might have some misspellings or missing punctuation. However, students need to be able to come up with an idea and write a sentence that conveys that idea. If given the question "What is your favorite food and why?", these are example of acceptable, and unacceptable, answers --  Ready for this class, minimum: I like pizza. Pizza is good chees is yummy. *In this example, there is a missing period, missing capitalization, and "cheese" is spelled incorrectly. However, the student still expressed themselves in a way that the teacher can understand. Ready for this class, advanced: Pizza is my favorite food because I love chese. It is very good. I want to eat it every day! *In this example, the student misspelled cheese, but they were able to write three complete sentences with correct punctuation Not ready for this class: pizza *In this example, the student is not able to write three sentences independently.
